Gala Days 2017
Gala Days June 24th & 25th, 2017
SATURDAY – 24th
Gala Days and Canada 150 were celebrated one week apart in Kingsport during the month of June. It is impossible to mention the names of all the organizers and volunteers that made these two weekends so successful but rest assured each individual contribution is greatly appreciated.
Kingsport Gala Days had a busy lineup June 24 &25 that included a number of family-friendly activities. This page includes a number of photo galleries displaying the photography of Peggy Miller. Thank you Peggy.
8:30 am Saturday – Race Against the Tide
The second annual Race Against the Tide 3K and 5K beach run was hosted in conjunction with Kingsport Gala Days June 24.
Race Against the Tide tripled in size this year from 18-57 runners! Despite the drizzle of rain the runners appeared to really enjoy themselves especially the young students who gleefully turned somersaults in the mud after they crossed the finish line. This event has the potential of turning into a major event.
Muffins and Coffee at the Lloyd Centre
Displays in the Lloyd Memorial Centre.
People took pleasure in gathering at the Lloyd Centre for a chat over coffee and muffins. On leaving many had at least one fresh baked goodie in their hand. The historic Model Train display with Paul Bushnell and Dan Conlin were of great interest again this year.
Chicken BBQ The Chicken BBQ sold out again this year.
Tide’s In Canteen
Tide’s In Canteen did a brisk business, particularly on Sunday night while the band Test of Time entertained the crowd before the fireworks display at dusk brought an end to the festivities.
The Park Canteen did a brisk business as well despite the weather. The canteen was located opposite the Park from 11 am – 3 pm serving hot dogs, chili, water, pop and chips.
Folks in the Pink 50/50 t-shirts wandered around the Village selling tickets. Because of the weather, the sale of tickets extended into the second day of Gala Days. Winning ticket was drawn after the evening music event at the Waterfront just before Fireworks on Sunday evening.
Tarot Card Reading
There was a chance to have a tarot card reading with Winnie Wickwire. A new event for Gala Days! Thank you Winnie.

4-H display and small farm animals at the Park, and Children’s games at the Park.
The dreary weather did have an effect on the parade (which was small but an enthusiastic one) and on the children’s games as well. Let’s hope for better weather next year. Young and old enjoyed the gathering of small animals at the park as part of the 4-H demonstration
The Kings County Concert Band
The Kings County Concert Band was moved to the Emmanuel United Church due to the weather. They offered rousing entertainment and played to a full house.
